In mid-May, the monks of St Andrew’s Abbey in Valyermo, California (Congregation of the Annunciation), elected Abbot Damien Toilolo to a third eight-year term of office.

On 12 May, the monks of the Spanish Abbey of Valle de los Caídos (Solesmes Congregation) elected their current Prior Administrator, Fr Alfredo Maroto Herranz, as Abbot.

At the Conventual Priory of Ewu-Esan in Nigeria (Congregation of the Annunciation), Fr Victor Ugbeide was elected Conventual Prior for an eight-year term on 10 May. Prior to his election, Fr Victor served as an official (offiziale) here at Sant’Anselmo.

On 9 May, the International Art Biennale opened in Venice. The centrepiece of the Vatican Pavilion features Hildegard of Bingen (†1179), the great Benedictine Abbess and Doctor of the Church.

As of 1 May, the AIM has announced that its official title has been changed at the relevant prefecture to "Associatio Internationalis Monastica." The acronym AIM will remain in use, as has been the case during previous name changes for this worldwide monastic alliance of Benedictines, Cistercians, and Trappists.

On 29 April, the monks of Namyangju in Korea (Congregation of Saint Ottilien) elected Fr Isaac Ko as Conventual Prior for a six-year term. Fr Isaac joins them from Waegwan Abbey (also of the Congregation of Saint Ottilien) and completed his postgraduate studies at Sant’Anselmo last year.

On 19 April, Ndanda Abbey (Congregation of Saint Ottilien) opened a secondary school and the very first Benedictine foundation in the city of Dodoma, Tanzania.
