Fr. Ludwig Wenzl OSB Elected 68th Abbot of Melk Abbey
Fr. Ludwig Wenzl OSB has been elected by the community of Melk Abbey as the 68th abbot, succeeding Abbot Georg Wilfinger. He will take office on 7 November 2025 for a 12-year term.
Pope Leo XIV Confirms Re-election of Urban Federer as Abbot of Einsiedeln
On 5 September 2025 Pope Leo XIV confirmed the re-election of Fr. Urban Federer, OSB, as ordinary Abbot of the Territorial Abbey of Maria Einsiedeln. The monastic chapter had elected him on 30 August for another 12-year term, a first in the Abbey’s history.
