Our Father Willigis (Wunibald) Jäger OSB has gone home to be with the Lord on 20 March 2020.

Father Willigis was born on 7 March 1925 in Hösbach (Aschaffenburg district). He attended our boarding schools in St. Ludwig and Würzburg. After graduating from high school, he joined our monastic community in 1945, making his temporary profession in 1947 and his solemn profession in 1950. After studying theology, he was ordained a priest on 27 April 1952.

First he was a teacher and educator at our Egbert-Gymnasium, then, from 1960 to 1964, consultant for mission and development at the BDKJ in Düsseldorf and later at Missio Aachen and the Aktion Missio in Bavaria. During a stay in Japan he got to know Zen meditation. He became a Zen teacher and later a Zen master named Kyo-un-Roshi. From 1983 to 2001 he was the director of our meditation house St. Benedikt in Würzburg and from 2002 to 2007 director of the meditation center in Holzkirchen.

May the Lord now let him see the light in abundance that he longed for and taught many people to seek.

Because of the current situation and the regulations in connection with the Coronavirus, only the monastery community attended the requiem and the funeral. A funeral service for P. Willigis in Holzkirchen will be planned for a later date.
