The Lord of life and death has called Fr. Matthäus (Volker) Sandrock OSB to His eternal glory on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Münsterschwarzach Abbey.
Fr. Matthäus was born in 1942, in Hannoversch-Münden. He entered Münsterschwarzach in 1961. By professing his vows in 1962, he joined the monastic community and was ordained a priest in 1967. From 1969 to 1987, he led the abbey’s guesthouse. From 1987 to 1999, he served as superior at the St. Benedict Study House and College in Würzburg. He was pastor from 1999 to 2017 in the parishes of Stadtschwarzach, Schwarzenau, and Reupelsdorf. Afterward, he served as chaplain at Maria Frieden Abbey in Kirchschletten until 2020.
The Requiem Mass for Fr. Matthäus will be celebrated on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Abbey Church. May God receive him into His glory.
