Br. Kilian (Konrad) Herold OSB passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025. Born in Dipbach in 1937, he was the fifth of seven children. After completing his early education and a locksmith apprenticeship, he entered monastic life at Scheyern in 1954. Taking the religious name Kilian, he made his final vows in 1960. A skilled craftsman, he trained as an electrician, earning both journeyman and master certifications, and later shared his expertise as a vocational instructor. He also pursued theological studies, combining practical skills with a deep faith life.

Known affectionately as “Brother Electro,” Br. Kilian made countless technical contributions to the monastery, including the convent bell automation and electrical systems still in use today. From 1974 to 2001, he served as the monastery’s construction manager, gaining unmatched knowledge of the monastery’s infrastructure. He was a dedicated member of the community, serving in various leadership roles, including Subprior. His love of engineering extended to maintaining the water systems and fountains and even realizing a personal dream of building a garden pool.

In his later years, Br. Kilian faced physical challenges, especially after a serious fall in 2021. Despite significant health setbacks, he showed great determination in recovery, eventually regaining enough strength to participate in meals and worship. Known for his strong will and independence, he continued tinkering from his bed-turned-mini-workshop until the end. He was laid to rest on June 5, 2025, with many gathered in prayerful hope of resurrection, honoring his life of service, creativity, and devotion.
