The Synod of Abbot Presidents met in Montserrat, 15–19 September, uniting Benedictine leaders in prayer, fraternity and dialogue. Highlights included collaboration with the CIB and preparations for the Benedictine Jubilee of 2029.
The Abbey of Lubiń marked the 450th anniversary of the birth of the Servant of God Father Bernard of Wąbrzeźno OSB with a three-day gathering that brought together Benedictine superiors from Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine.
Sant’Anselmo in Rome hosted the 20th national congress of Italian Benedictine Oblates from 29 to 31 August 2025. The assembly featured shared liturgy, scholarly input and the election of a new national council.
Fr. Ludwig Wenzl OSB has been elected by the community of Melk Abbey as the 68th abbot, succeeding Abbot Georg Wilfinger. He will take office on 7 November 2025 for a 12-year term.
On 5 September 2025 Pope Leo XIV confirmed the re-election of Fr. Urban Federer, OSB, as ordinary Abbot of the Territorial Abbey of Maria Einsiedeln. The monastic chapter had elected him on 30 August for another 12-year term, a first in the Abbey’s history.
During the celebrations which marked the 50th anniversary of the Abbey Church of Worth Abbey (UK), Abbot Primate Jeremias Schröder OSB spoke to the Catholic Union of Great Britain.
