Abbot Emeritus Nicolaus V. Wagner OSB, senior by age and profession of the Benedictine Abbey of Michaelbeuern, recipient of the Silver Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria, the Golden Medal of Honor of the Province of Salzburg, honorary citizen of the municipality of Dorfbeuern, bearer of the honorary ring of the municipality of Perwang, and a member of the Comradeship Association of Michaelbeuern, passed away.

Born Johann Wagner on 19 August 1936, he joined the abbey in 1956, taking his vows as Brother Nicolaus. Ordained a priest in 1962, he served as pastor and revitalized parish life in Maxglan, emphasizing collaboration and community engagement.

In 1982, he was elected the 55th Abbot of Michaelbeuern. His leadership was marked by significant renovations, including transforming an old wing into a retreat and education center. He prioritized the restoration of the church, the expansion of the school, and ecological innovations.

From 1991 to 2021, he led the Augustiner Bräu Mülln, fostering growth and innovation. Despite declining health in his later years, he remained gracious and patient, always welcoming visitors with a smile. May God reward him.
