Archbishop Arthur Roche, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, gave the academic lecture for the opening of the Pontifical Ateneo Sant’Anselmo’s academic year 2021-22. The lecture, entitled “In the earthly liturgy we participate in anticipation of the heavenly liturgy” (Sacrosanctum Concilium 8) is the first speech given by Archbishop Roche since his appointment as Prefect on 27 May 2021 by Pope Francis and is said by the Catholic web site The Tablet to “set out the principles for liturgical reform”.

The inauguration of the Pontifical Ateneo Sant’Anselmo’s academic year 2021-2022 was held on 4 October 2021 at 5:00 pm, at the church of Sant’Anselmo on the Aventine, Rome.

Roche spoke after the inaugural speech by Rector Bernhard A. Eckerstorfer OSB. At the end of His Excellency’s speech, the Sant’Anselmo Schola Cantorum sang Hymnus in honorem Sancti Anselmi with the academic community.
