Father Notker (Michael Alois) Hiegl OSB passed away on July 28, 2025, at the age of 85, after a year of illness. Born in 1941, in Milititsch (now Serbia), he was raised in a deeply Catholic family that shaped his lifelong faith and commitment to the Church. He entered monastic life in Beuron in 1964, making his solemn vows in 1969. Ordained a priest in 1980, Father Notker devoted his life to pastoral ministry, spiritual guidance, and the renewal of Christian faith across Europe.
Father Notker was a dedicated servant to his parishes in Beuron, Bärenthal, and Hausen im Tal, where he was beloved by his communities. His work as a retreat leader, confessor, and spiritual counselor touched countless lives, particularly through his programs for youth, families, and political leaders. He was also known for his Marian-European apostolate, establishing a network of chapels across Europe dedicated to « Maria, Mother of Europe, » to inspire a renewed Christian consciousness across the continent.
In his later years, Father Notker retired to Beuron, where he continued to serve as a confessor and remain active in monastic life. He leaves behind a legacy of deep spiritual commitment, kindness, and unwavering faith. May God reward him abundantly.
