After a life devoted to religious and priestly service, the Almighty God has called to Himself the Reverend Father Wolfgang Fischer-Felgitsch OSB, monk of Admont Abbey and Honorary Chaplain at Santa Maria dell’Anima in Rome. Born in Graz in 1971, he entered the novitiate of Admont Abbey in 1999 and made his solemn profession in 2003. He studied theology in Salzburg and at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant’Anselmo in Rome, a city that became his second home. He was ordained a priest in 2006.
After a brief pastoral assignment in Voitsberg, Father Wolfgang returned to Rome, where from 2009 to 2021 he served in the Prefecture of the Papal Household. He became well known to German-speaking pilgrims, whom he welcomed and assisted with great dedication. In 2021, he returned to his native Styria, serving as team priest in several parishes, including Traboch, which became a special home for him. A devoted admirer of Our Lady, he loved the Latin language and was actively involved in Catholic student associations.
Throughout his life, Father Wolfgang faced serious health challenges with remarkable faith and devotion. Following a sudden physical collapse, he was admitted to the hospital in Graz, where, despite all hopes, he did not recover. After receiving the Anointing of the Sick, the Lord called him to Himself on 31 October 2026, his patron saint’s feast day. We give thanks for his faithful service, his priestly dedication and his fraternal presence, entrusting him to the loving mercy of God.
