The Benedictine community of Kremsmünster Abbey mourns the passing of Fr. Bruno Niederkrotenthaler, who passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at the age of 84. Born as Rudolf Franz Niederkrotenthaler in Neuhofen an der Krems, he joined the Kremsmünster Abbey in 1960, taking the name Bruno and dedicating his life to monastic service. Ordained in 1965, he became known for his work as a teacher, pastor, and a compassionate servant of God.
Over the years, Fr. Bruno served in various roles, including catechist, art teacher, and chaplain in Vorchdorf and Kremsmünster. In Weißkirchen an der Traun, where he was appointed parish pastor in 1991, he oversaw significant renovations of the parish facilities and was beloved by the community for his warmth, humor, and musical talent. A skilled violinist and singer, he brought joy and comfort to children, youth, and parishioners alike.
After returning to the abbey in 2019, he lived in the infirmary, supported by the sacraments of the Church until his peaceful passing. A vigil service will be held on September 25, 2024, in the Weißkirchen parish church, with the funeral Mass on September 26, 2024, at Kremsmünster Abbey, followed by burial in the abbey cemetery.
