Br. Ethelbert (Helmut Alfred) Hümmer OSB died on Tuesday, 8 April 2025 at Münsterschwarzach Abbey.
He was born in 1941 in Geldersheim near Schweinfurt, trained as a baker at the abbey in 1956 and entered the monastery in 1958. He professed his temporary vows in 1960 and made his solemn profession in 1966. He took the master’s exam as a baker in 1970. From 1971 to 1983 he was the secretary and master’s examiner at the Kitzingen Bakers Guild. He ran the monastery bakery from 1965 to 1983. From 1985 to 2010 he was responsible for the monastery kitchen. He was a good cook, for the brothers, for the guests and the students.
The Eucharist in thanksgiving for Br. Ethelbert will be celebrated on Saturday morning, 12 April 2025, at 10 o’clock in the abbey church. May God reward him abundantly.
