Brother Gaudentius (Georg Adalbert) Sauermann was born in 1930 in Königsberg, East Prussia. In 1949, he joined the Benedictine Abbey of Maria Laach, transferred to Gerleve Abbey in 1953, and in 1959 was sent to the newly founded Priory of St. Ansgar in Nütschau. He led that monastery from 1975 to 1994 and was the first Conventual Prior of Nütschau.
As a sought-after pastor, Br. Gaudentius tirelessly ministered to many, offering guidance with an open heart. Even in the last five months of his earthly life, while receiving care at the Senior Center, numerous visitors found comfort and encouragement in their faith through him.
The Eucharistic celebration for Brother Gaudentius will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:30 AM in the monastery church of St. Ansgar in Nütschau. May the Lord grant him peace.
