Father Leo (Johann) Fürst, a Benedictine monk, priest, and spiritual guide, passed away on June 27, 2024, at the age of 84. He entered the Abbey of Melk in 1960, where he dedicated his life to serving God and his community. After being ordained a priest in 1966, Father Leo spent much of his ministry in pastoral work, serving as a chaplain, a teacher, and a beloved pastor in various parishes, including Untersiebenbrunn and Melk.
Throughout his career, Father Leo was deeply committed to the liturgy, church renovation projects, and the spiritual well-being of those under his care. His thoughtful sermons, his dedication to church services, and his service to the local community marked him as a beloved figure. After retiring in 2017, he spent his final years at the Abbey, quietly contributing to its life through prayer and reflection.
Father Leo’s testament reflected a life of gratitude and humility, always focused on service to others and to God. Despite his health challenges, he continued to engage in puzzles and reflection, demonstrating a keen intellect until his passing. He is remembered for his unwavering faith, his powerful pastoral presence, and his gentle, humble spirit.
