Father Hubert De Maigret was born on 2 July 1924. He arrived at the Abbey of Fleury in 1946, soon after the monastery’s refounding in 1944. He was the renewed community’s second novice. He made his monastic profession on 21 March 1947 and was ordained a priest on 19 May 1951.
During his lifetime, Father Hubert held the positions of linen keeper, sacristan, oblate director, master of novices, and guide of the basilica. He planted an orchard that he cultivated according to biodynamic methods until reaching old age. He also planted seeds of grace in the souls of the many people he accompanied spiritually.
A humble and pure-hearted man, Father Hubert compensated for his hesitant and restless temperament by the determination of his faith and his perseverance in prayer. During the last years of his life, having reached the limits of his cognitive faculties, he grew in spiritual childhood, which brought him very close to God and to his brothers.
Father Hubert passed away from this life on 26 May 2019, in the 95th year of his life, 73rd year of monastic profession, and 69th year of priesthood. We ask that you please remember his peaceful repose generously in your continued prayers.
