Educated at St. Benedict’s School, Abbot Francis entered the monastery – then Ealing Priory – in 1949 and was professed in 1950. After his ordination in 1955 he studied in London and at the Lateran University in Rome, where he obtained a degree in Canon Law, JCD.
He joined the staff of St. Benedict’s School in 1958 and was appointed games master and second master in 1960.
Dom Francis Rossiter’s Service
Dom Francis was elected an abbey councillor in 1960 and served as abbot of St Benedict’s Abbey, Ealing, for 24 years from 1967 to 1991.
He served as abbot president of the English Congregation for many years and Pro-Primate of the Benedictine Confederation for one year.
