Fr. Albert D\u00fcckelmann, OSB, Consistorial Councillor and Benedictine monk of Kremsm\u00fcnster Abbey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, 11 June 2026. Born Georg (J\u00f6rg) D\u00fcckelmann in 1942 in Tragwein, Austria, he attended the Abbey Grammar School in Kremsm\u00fcnster before briefly studying medicine at the University of Vienna. Answering a deeper vocation, he entered the Benedictine monastery in 1964, made his first profession in 1965, his solemn profession in 1968, and was ordained a priest in 1969. His priestly ministry was rooted in humility, faith, and a lifelong commitment to serving both God and his fellow human beings.<\/p>\n
Throughout his monastic life, Fr. Albert became widely known for his kindness, compassion, and gentle spirit. Drawing on his medical training, he cared for the sick members of the monastery for more than thirty years as infirmarian, while also welcoming countless visitors with warmth as guestmaster. For over twenty-five years he taught chemistry at the Abbey Grammar School and served as an educator in the boarding school, where generations of students experienced his patient encouragement and his unwavering witness to God’s love. Deeply devoted to the Eucharist and to the Blessed Virgin Mary, he nurtured a rich spiritual life that inspired many through his work as confessor, retreat guide, and collaborator in various ecclesial movements, including the Focolare Movement and the Franciscan Community.<\/p>\n
In 2001, Fr. Albert accepted the pastoral leadership of the parish of Ried im Traunkreis, where he served with extraordinary dedication, becoming a beloved shepherd to the entire community. His years there were marked by pastoral care, lasting friendships, and significant restoration projects for the parish. After returning to Kremsm\u00fcnster Abbey in 2025, his health gradually declined due to heart disease. Despite his sudden passing, his life remains a lasting testimony of selfless love, humble service, and profound faith. May God now grant him the fullness of the love he proclaimed throughout his life and welcome him into the communion of the saints.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
