The monastic community of Beuron is mourning the loss of Brother Burchard Lorenz Georg Herrmann OSB, who passed away on September 3, 2024, at the age of 87 following complications from a stroke. A beloved member of the community for over six decades, Brother Burchard lived a life of deep faith and service. Born into a farming family in Franconia, he joined the Benedictine Order in 1960, where he served not only as a monk but also as a farmer, butcher, and monastery porter. His dedication to the monastery and his local community was unwavering, earning him respect for his work with the Red Cross, his long tenure as a town councilor, and his role as a trusted listener to many who sought his counsel. His commitment to both his monastic vows and the people around him left an indelible mark on all who knew him. A funeral service will be held on September 7, followed by a Mass in his honor.
