Father Markus Krammer, a Benedictine monk of the Abbey of Göttweig, passed away on August 30, 2024, at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Leopold Krammer on July 13, 1949, in Gerolding, he entered the Göttweig Abbey as a novice in 1970, taking the religious name Markus. He made his final vows in 1974 and was ordained a priest in 1975.

Throughout his life, Father Markus served with joy and dedication in various pastoral roles, including as a parish priest in Unter- and Obernalb, Obermarkersdorf, Retz, and Hainfeld. He was also deeply committed to organizing pilgrimages at Göttweig Abbey and served as a cantor, leading the community in prayer. His work as a spiritual advisor and his pastoral care were highly regarded by all who knew him.

In his later years, Father Markus faced a challenging diagnosis but remained serene, preparing spiritually for his passing. He died peacefully in the early morning hours of August 30, 2024.

Father Markus will be remembered for his unwavering faith, joyful spirit, and dedication to his community. His funeral will take place on September 7, 2024, at the Abbey of Göttweig, where he will be laid to rest.
