Having received the Anointing of the Sick shortly before his death, he departed this life as quietly as he had lived, accompanied by a fellow monk in prayer. His life was marked by deep faith, humility, and unwavering dedication to the Benedictine vocation.

Born in 1938 in Asbach-Bäumenheim, Germany, Brother Robert grew up in a devout Catholic family that nurtured his vocation. After completing an apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker, he entered St. Ottilien Archabbey in 1956 and made his monastic profession in 1958, receiving the name Robert Bellarmine. Throughout his life, he served faithfully in the monastery’s printing press, mission warehouse, refectory, gardens, and Mission Museum. Known for his diligence, simplicity, and love of nature, he also contributed as a cantor, lector, and member of the monastery’s fire brigade.

In his later years, despite declining health, Brother Robert remained a man of prayer, spending long hours in the monastery church and later in the infirmary chapel. Quiet, modest, and deeply devoted to God, he accepted suffering with serenity and entrusted his life peacefully into the Lord’s hands. Remembered for his gentle presence, subtle sense of humor, and faithful service to his community and family, he leaves behind an enduring example of humility and steadfast commitment. May he now rest in the eternal peace of Christ.

Obituary pdf |EN|

Sankt Ottilien Erzabtei web site|DE|

[148
151
post-19194","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-obituaries_25","tag-obituaries_2025
["GET
