Brother Kenan Kapina, OSB, a monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, died peacefully on 19 July 2026, at the age of 73 and in the 50th year of his monastic profession. Born Vincent Joel Kapina on 5 October 1952 in East Chicago, Indiana, he entered Saint Meinrad after completing his studies and made his first profession in 1976 and his solemn profession in 1979. Throughout his monastic life, he served the Archabbey faithfully in many different responsibilities.<\/span><\/p>\n For many years, Brother Kenan worked in the Business Office and later served as manager of the Guest House and Retreat Center, associate oblate director, and vocation director. In 2004, he moved to the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, where he served in the Office of Marriage and Family Life and in the diocesan Business and Development Office. He returned to Saint Meinrad on Holy Thursday 2019, where declining health confined him largely to the infirmary, yet never diminished his generous spirit or interest in others.<\/span><\/p>\n Brother Kenan remained a joyful and attentive presence in the monastery until the end of his life. He welcomed visitors warmly, kept a keen interest in the lives of his confreres, and was known for his quick wit, gentle humour, and infectious smile. Even in friendly banter, he often managed to have the last word\u2014and the best laugh. He spent much of his time reading, with mystery novels among his favourite companions. We give thanks for his fifty years of monastic fidelity and commend him to the mercy and peace of God.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
