Father Jean-No\u00ebl Bouloy passed peacefully into the hope of the Resurrection on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, during Vespers, after a long period of declining strength. Born in 1927, in Cuperly, he entered monastic life at a young age and gave nearly eight decades of faithful service to God and to his brothers. Ordained a priest in 1953, he dedicated his life to prayer, community, and a remarkable variety of humble yet essential tasks within the monastery.<\/p>\n
Throughout the years, Father Jean-No\u00ebl served as assistant novice master, printer, bookbinder, cheesemaker, guestmaster, and member of several small monastic communities. Whether shaping books or shaping cheese, welcoming guests or guiding young monks, he approached every responsibility with a generous heart and an unwavering sense of commitment. His years at B\u00e9thanie and later at Chauveroche were especially marked by his warm hospitality and quiet, steadfast presence.<\/p>\n
Remembered for his sharp mind and playful love of language, Father Jean-No\u00ebl carried within him both gentleness and depth. Even as age brought isolation and the loss of mobility and sight, he remained courageous and attentive to the mystery of God.
