Brother Edward V. Grinder, a devoted monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey, passed into eternal life on July 9, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was a graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School. He earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in economics from Saint Vincent College in 1966 and later pursued theological and business studies, including a Master of Divinity from Saint Vincent Seminary and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He entered the novitiate in 1969, professed solemn vows in 1973, and was ordained a deacon in 1974.<\/span><\/p>\n Brother Edward\u2019s life was dedicated to education, service, and leadership within the Saint Vincent community. At Saint Vincent College, he taught economics, chaired the department, moderated student residences, and directed debate, leaving a lasting mark through his commitment to intellectual rigor and student development. As a founding member of the American Debate Association, he contributed significantly to the national collegiate debate scene. Beyond the classroom, he held numerous administrative and advisory roles, including service on the President\u2019s Council and as director of Activities and Scheduling.<\/span><\/p>\n In addition to his academic and monastic duties, Brother Edward was deeply involved in civic service. He held long-standing positions with the Wimmer Corporation and various local boards and authorities, offering his expertise in finance, planning, and community development. From 2003 until his death, he faithfully served as benefits manager for the Abbey\u2019s health care programs. Known for his sharp intellect, sense of responsibility, and quiet dedication, Brother Edward lived a life of faithful service to his monastic community, students, and neighbors.
