Thriving Mvimwa Abbey, in the remote Sumbawanga region of Tanzania, started to build its abbey church on All Saints Day. By invitation of Abbot Pambo Mkorwe, Father Anastasius Reiser \u2013 the Mission Procurator of the Benedictine Congregation of Sankt Ottilien and Abbot Emeritus of Peramiho Abbey \u2013 laid the foundation stone.<\/p>\n

Mvimwa Abbey was founded in 1979 from the Abbey of Hanga in southern Tanzania. It has developed into an important center of evangelization, education and development in this remote part of East Africa near Lake Tanganyika. The monastery became an abbey in 2001 and today has more than 80 monks \u2013 so it is high time to build a proper abbey church! \u00a0The plans for the church were drawn up by Swiss architect Werner Oberholzer, who has built 25 churches in Tanzania.<\/p>\n<\/div>
