Father Hartmann Scheuhammer OSB, a devoted Benedictine of G\u00f6ttweig Abbey and an honorary citizen of Unterbergern and Rossatz, has returned to the Lord after a long life of faithful service. Born Franz Scheuhammer in Wilhelmsburg in1936, he grew up in a loving family that nurtured his early sense of responsibility and dedication. His formation years as a young locksmith shaped his humble spirit, yet it was the encouragement of priests from Lilienfeld that set him on the path to monastic life. He entered the monastery in 1956, professed his vows in 1960, and was ordained a priest in 1963, beginning a ministry marked by warmth, clarity, and unwavering commitment.<\/span><\/p>\n His pastoral journey led him to serve the communities of Hainfeld, Unterbergern, and Rossatz, where he became a trusted shepherd for generations. As pastor and later prior of G\u00f6ttweig, Father Hartmann worked tirelessly beside his confrere, Father Gabriel Pruckner, sharing a deep bond of service and compassion. Their ministry, lived with zeal and heartfelt dedication, touched countless lives. Even after his return to the abbey in 2011, he remained a gentle presence – attentive, spiritually grounded, and sincerely interested in the world around him, especially in social and political affairs.<\/span><\/p>\n In his later years, Father Hartmann bore the challenges of aging with remarkable patience and gratitude, accepting the support of caregivers and confreres with humility.
