God, the Lord over life and death, has called Abbot Mauritius Choriol OSB, 86th Abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Mauritius into His glory on July 9, 2025, in his 65th year of life. Abbot Mauritius was born in1959, in Erstein (France), and entered the Abbey of Tholey in 1986. He made his monastic profession in 1987 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1993. He was elected Abbot in 2014.<\/p>\n

For 17 years, he guided the Abbey of Tholey through challenging times with kindness and determination. During his tenure, the convent buildings and the abbey church were thoroughly renovated with the support of benefactors, the Diocese of Trier, and public institutions. Through highs and lows, he led the community according to the Rule of St. Benedict and the Gospel.<\/p>\n
